RENEWAL OF THE ITALIAN DRIVER’S LICENSE
As per the Circular No. 16 of the Ministry of Transport dated April 7, 1971, it is possible to proceed with the renewal of the license only on condition that no more than five years have passed since the expiration date. Therefore, Italian citizens residing abroad and regularly registered with the consular registry or residing abroad for a period of at least six months, or registered with the Consular Registries for whom the registration procedure with AIRE has been initiated, as well as foreign citizens holding an Italian driving license, can request the confirmation of the validity of their license through the diplomatic-consular Authority. The latter will issue the certificate of confirmation of validity upon obtaining the required certification from the trusted doctor (art. 119 of the new Highway Code) and upon receiving the relevant consular fees of €50.00 (the amount of the consular fees must be paid in Armenian Drams directly to the Consular Office of the Embassy. The amount in drams will be communicated from time to time because it is updated every 3 months).
Medical clinic where to book an appointment to obtain the medical certificate:
“Medline” Medical Center tel. +374 60 660303, Via Rostovyan 17/1, Yerevan. http://www.medline.am/
The booking of the medical examination and the fee for the psychophysical assessments are the responsibility of the interested parties who, once the above is done, must present themselves, by appointment, at this Consular Office with the medical certification duly completed by the trusted doctor, the driver’s license and a photo.
BASED ON THE MEDICAL CERTIFICATION, THE CONSULAR AUTHORITY ISSUES THE RENEWAL CERTIFICATE OF THE LICENSE.
The license holder, equipped with this certificate, must circulate with the expired license together with the certificate itself, as the second constitutes an extension of the first. Therefore, the Embassy cannot renew a stolen or deteriorated license.
Once the residence or domicile in Italy is re-established, the citizen whose driver’s license has been renewed at this Embassy (or another Italian authority in a State not belonging to the European Union or the European Economic Area) is obliged, within six months from the re-establishment of residence in Italy and even if the renewal executed at the Embassy is still valid, to renew the license according to the ordinary procedure provided for in paragraph 8 of art. 126 of the Highway Code. In no case can the licenses of drivers whose psychophysical fitness must be certified by the local Medical Commissions referred to in art. 119, paragraph 4, of the C.d.S. be confirmed.
It should be noted that Italian diplomatic-consular representations abroad are not authorized to issue new licenses in card format.
